Nara Prefectural office

With the abolition former feudal domains and the establishment of prefectural goverments in 1871, Nara Prefecture was established with jurisdiction over the entire area that had comprised Yamato Province. At that time, the Nara Prefectural office was located in a building that had belonged to the Kofuku temple's Ichijo-in. In 1879, however, Nara Prefecture was abolished and the area under its jurisdiction was annexed to Sakai prefecture, which was subsequently annexed to osaka prefecture in 1881. In December 1887, Nara prefecture was re-established with its 1871 boundaries, as it remains today.
